Last month, I decided to get my Forklift License in Singapore (WSQ Certified).I thought it would be hard. But honestly, it was easier than I expected.Today, I’m sharing every step I took, so you can do it too.
If you want to drive a forklift legally in Singapore, you must have a WSQ Certified Forklift License. No license, no forklift job.Good thing is, getting the license is very doable.
Let me tell you how.
Why You Need a Forklift License
First thing first.
Singapore takes safety very seriously.Operating heavy machines like forklifts is dangerous if not trained. The law says you must be certified.
Employers will ask you for your WSQ Forklift License before they hire you.Without it, you cannot even touch a forklift at work.
Good news?
Once you have it, many doors open.Jobs become easier to find.Salaries are better too!
Step 1: Choose a WSQ Approved Training Centre
You cannot just go anywhere. You must train at a WSQ Approved Training Organisation (ATO).They are checked by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).It makes your certificate official.
Some popular training centres in Singapore:
I chose Wong Fong Academy.Their schedule fit my timing. Also, they are very friendly.
Tip: Pick a centre near your home or workplace. It saves you time and money!
Step 2: Check the Requirements
Before you register, check if you qualify. The basic requirements are:
- Minimum 18 years old
- Fit and healthy (some centres will ask for a medical check)
- Can understand simple English (for safety instructions)
- Some centres need you to be employed (but many accept private learners too)
I was lucky. I passed the medical easily. And my English was good enough.

Step 3: Register for the Forklift Course
After checking the requirements, I registered online.Very fast process.
They asked for:
- My NRIC / FIN number
- My personal details
- Payment (they accept SkillsFuture Credit too!)
My course cost around $500 – $700, but it depends on where you go.
Some centres offer promotions too.Always check!
Step 4: Attend the Training
The training usually takes 2 to 3 days.Mine was 2 full days, from 9am to 5pm.
First day was theory. We learned:
- Forklift parts
- Safety rules
- How to inspect the forklift
- Hazards to watch out for
At first, it sounded boring. But the trainer made it fun.Lots of videos, real examples, and jokes.
Second day was practical. We got to sit on a real forklift! We practiced:
- Moving forward and backward
- Turning left and right
- Lifting and lowering pallets
- Parking safely
It was exciting but scary at first. But after a few tries, I felt confident.
The trainers were very patient. If you make a mistake, no one shouts at you.
They guide you nicely.
Step 5: Pass the Assessment

On the last day, we had to take an assessment. It has two parts:
- Theory test – simple MCQ questions.
- Practical test – drive the forklift and complete a task.
The theory part was easy because they teach you everything.I just paid attention during the class and passed.
The practical part needed focus. But if you drive carefully, check your mirrors, and follow rules, you will pass.
Good tip:Never rush.Move slowly but correctly.
Step 6: Receive Your WSQ Forklift License
After passing, I received a temporary certificate immediately. The official WSQ certificate came by post after 2 weeks.
Now I can show my license proudly whenever a company asks.Feels good!
How Long It Takes to Get a Forklift License?
Whole process from registration to getting my certificate took about 2-3 weeks.
Very fast compared to other types of licenses!
If you register fast and attend the next available class, you can finish even quicker.
How Much It Costs to get Forklift License in Singapore?
Rough estimate:
Item | Cost(SGD) |
