If you’re moving to Singapore or starting a new job here, one of the first things you’ll need is a local bank account.I’ve just been through the process myself. So I’m going to break down exactly how to open a bank account in Singapore.I’ll keep it simple, like I’m telling a friend.Let’s go.

You can’t really live here without one.Your employer needs it to pay your salary.
You’ll need it to pay rent, utilities, and your phone bills.Cash isn’t king here.
Everyone uses PayNow, FAST transfers, and cards.
Singapore has three big local banks: DBS, OCBC, and UOB.All are safe, fast, and very digital.
But they feel a bit different. Here’s a quick table to show the vibe:
That’s it.No need to panic about stacks of papers.
1. Go to the DBS website or app.
2. Choose “Open Account”.
3. If you have Singpass (Singapore’s digital ID), it’s super quick.
4. Fill in your personal details.
5. Upload your documents (passport, pass, proof of address).
6. Take a quick selfie for verification.
7. Submit and wait. Usually takes 1–2 days.
8. Once approved, you’ll get a digital card immediately.
9. Your physical debit card arrives in the mail in 5–7 days.
Tip: Use the DBS digibank app. It’s crazy easy and fast.

1. Download the OCBC Digital app.
2. Click “Open a New Account”.
3. Again, Singpass makes it even faster.
4. Choose the type of account (360 Account is popular).
5. Upload your documents.
6. Do a quick online ID check.
7. Done. Approval can be instant or take 1–2 working days.
Tip: OCBC’s app feels a little more “traditional” than DBS, but it’s still smooth.
1. Head to UOB’s Mighty app.
2. Select “Open an Account”.
3. Follow the same flow: Singpass login, upload documents, selfie.
4. Choose an account like UOB One Account (good interest if you credit your salary).
5. Finish up and wait for approval.
Tip:If you like credit card rewards, UOB gives good bundles when you open an account.
Everything moves fast here.Within a few days, you’ll be ready to pay rent, order food, shop, and move around the city like a local.
Opening a bank account in Singapore is actually way easier than it sounds. If you have your documents ready, it can take less than 10 minutes online.Choose DBS, OCBC, or UOB based on what matters to you — speed, savings, or perks.
Get your account, get your debit card, link PayNow, and you’re all set!
