Where you stay makes or breaks your trip in Singapore—take it from a local who’s lived here all his life.
Hey there, welcome! If you’re planning your first (or next) visit to Singapore, choosing the right area to stay can really shape your experience. I’ve lived in Singapore for years and helped many friends plan their trips—so here’s my personal breakdown of the best neighborhoods to stay in Singapore for tourists, including what makes each spot special, who it suits best, and how much you can expect to spend.
This is Singapore’s postcard zone. If you want to wake up to views of the skyline, Marina Bay Sands, and Gardens by the Bay, this is it. Super safe, clean, and photogenic. But it comes at a price!
Best For:
Average Price Range:
If you love shopping malls, Orchard is paradise. It’s also super central, so getting around is easy. Even if you’re not here to shop, it’s got plenty of dining and nearby MRT stations.
I personally love Bugis—it’s artsy, vibrant, and budget-friendly. You get beautiful mosques, street murals, hip cafés, and heritage all in one. Great for creatives and solo travelers.
Chinatown is one of the most vibrant spots in town, and I often bring overseas friends here to eat. You’ll find temples, souvenir shops, and amazing hawker food—all walkable.
If you enjoy bars, music, and lively nights, Clarke Quay is the place. It’s scenic, walkable, and full of restaurants by the river. Great for couples and friends.
This is where I always point budget travellers. Little India is full of flavor—literally and culturally. Plus, accommodations here are value-for-money, and the vibe is lively and local.
Sentosa is like our local holiday island. It’s got beaches, theme parks, and resorts. If you’re here with kids or just want to relax away from the city, this is the one.
Traveller Type | Area Recommendation | Budget Estimate (Per Night) |
First-Time Visitors | Marina Bay | SGD 300–700+ |
Budget Travellers | Chinatown, Little India | SGD 30–150 |
Shoppers & Central Vibe | Orchard Road | SGD 120–350 |
Culture & Local Life | Bugis, Kampong Glam | SGD 60–180 |
Nightlife & Vibes | Clarke Quay | SGD 120–250 |
Families with Kids | Sentosa Island | SGD 200–500 |
Singapore may be small, but where you stay can totally shape your experience here. Some people want views, some want value, others just want good food or peace and quiet.
My best advice? Choose based on your travel style—not just your budget. And feel free to mix it up—spend 2 nights in Marina Bay, then 2 in Little India for the full spectrum.
Whatever you choose, welcome to Singapore—and enjoy your stay lah!
